How do I Link Samsung and MyFitnessPal?
Samsung and MyFitnessPal announced their partnership in January of 2017. At that time, members could link their Samsung Fit 2, Gear S2, and Gear S3 with their MyFitnessPal account on Android for easy access to specific info from their MFP account on their device. As of December 2017, we have expanded this so members using iOS devices can do the same.
Please see the instructions outlined below on how to link if you have an Android device, and how to link if you have an iOS device.
How to link Samsung on Android:
Basic Steps: Download MyFitnessPal app on mobile and Samsung watch. Open MFP Gear app. Follow prompts on mobile to authorize link.
1. Download MyFitnessPal to your mobile device.
If you haven't already, download the MyFitnessPal app from the Google Play Store and setup an account.
2. Download the MyFitnessPal Gear app from the Galaxy App Store onto your Samsung watch.
3. Ensure you have a WiFi connection
Ensure that you have a strong connection to a Wireless network prior to starting the MyFitnessPal app. A WiFi connection is necessary for the first time setup.
4. Open MyFitnessPal Gear app
Press the Home Button on your Samsung watch and scroll down to the MyFitnessPal Gear app, and tap on it.
5. Enter login credentials to authorize the integration.
A prompt will appear on your Android mobile device, asking you to login to your MyFitnessPal account. Enter your credentials and tap "Accept".
Note: if you are on the latest versions of the apps and find an issue connecting, please try uninstalling/reinstalling the MFP app from your Android device, then starting the above steps over again.
How to link Samsung on iOS:
Basic Steps: Download MyFitnessPal app on mobile and Samsung watch. Download the appropriate Samsung app on mobile. Launch all 3 apps (open MFP watch app last). Follow prompts on mobile to authorize link.
1. Download the following three apps:
All three will be needed to for the two programs to integrate successfully on iOS.
- The MyFitnessPal app installed on your iOS device from the App Store
- The iOS Samsung Galaxy Wearable app (if you have the Gear S2, S3, or Galaxy watch) OR iOS Samsung Fit app (if you have the Fit2 Band) installed on your iOS device from the App store
- The MyFitnessPal Gear app installed on your Samsung Watch from the Galaxy App Store
Your login to the MyFitnessPal iOS app, and the MyFitnessPal app on your Samsung watch will be the same.
3. Ensure the Samsung watch and the iOS Samsung Galaxy Wearable / iOS Samsung Fit app (whichever you have installed) are actively paired.
Ensuring the watch and the iOS Samsung Galaxy Wearable / iOS Samsung Fit app are actively paired means that not only does the app know it’s paired with the Watch, but that it actively sees it at that moment. The easiest way to determine this is by checking the Samsung app to see if the watches battery percentage is displayed. If you see the battery percentage, then the two are actively paired.
4. Launch (open) all three apps. Launch the MyFitnessPal Watch app last.
It is important that you open the app on your Samsung watch last because the launching of the MyFitnessPal watch app is what prompts the start of the linking process. The two apps on your iOS device can be opened in any order, as long as both have been opened prior to opening the MyFitnessPal app on your Samsung Watch.
4. Receive push notification from Samsung.
After launching the MyFitnessPal app on your Samsung watch, you will receive a “Remote Browse Launch Request” push notification on your iOS device. Tap on this notification.
5. Safari browser window will launch with a pop up asking for permission to open the page in MyFitnessPal.
Once Safari launches, you will see a pop up stating “Open this page in ‘MyFitnessPal’?”. Tap “Open”.
6. Tap “Accept” on the next page that loads.
After opening in MyFitnessPal, you will be taken to a page that states, “Thank you for downloading MyFitnessPal for Samsung Gear! Tap the ‘Accept’ button below to complete the pairing.” Tap “Accept”.
7. Tap Done after successful linkage.
If successful, you will see a “Success!” screen with a green check mark. If unsuccessful, you will see an option to retry. At this point, your Samsung Watch, which would have had a loading bar throughout this process, will move to “Update Gear Profile”, indicating all three apps are linked together.
