Calories burned changing dixdot — Jul 10, 2018 03:38PM PDT

I use a Garmin Activity Tracker which syncs to myfitnesspal. I watch my 'calories burned' very closely when I log my food. I have noticed that lately, the calories burned changes. For example, one day my calories burned was 383 (at the end of the day). The next day when I checked back, it had changed my calories burned to 187. This has happened several times. What's the deal?

Thank you for contacting us regarding your adjustments. We apologize for any confusion coming from your calorie adjustments changing overnight. When your MFP account is partnered with an all day activity tracker you will receive adjustments based off a projection of what your total daily calorie burn will be.

This estimation is based on how active you have been from midnight up to your most recent sync between the apps. Because the integration takes your entire day’s activity into account, it’s important to wear your device as much as possible during the day. The two programs will work with each other to determine if an adjustment was actually earned.

Depending on when the app syncs with MyFitnessPal, this goal may also fluctuate throughout the course of the day. If you sync in the morning after a work out, you will get an estimate based on that activity level. However, if you sleep the rest of the day, it will adjust again according to this new information.

In order to minimize impact of the this, we recommend you sync your all day tracker before each meal you consume so you can have the most accurate adjustments. We are not in charge of this data since it originates from your partner device, we can only post the data as it is sent to us.

Details about the calculation of any adjustment can be viewed by clicking on the “i” next to the Calorie Adjustment line in your Exercise Diary (on the full website), or by tapping the adjustment itself in the Exercise Diary in the MyFitnessPal app. If you do not see a line that says Calorie Adjustment in the cardiovascular section, then there may be a problem with the sync. However, if you do see this line, then it should be syncing correctly, even if it says 0.
