Breakdown of added sugars and natural sugars nigeldewit — Jun 28, 2019 10:24AM PDT

When will your system be capable of breaking down natural sugars (in fruit and veg) with added sugars? After trying just about every diet that exists without success, I am now working on eating no added sugar. In two months I have lost 20 pounds and it is still coming off. Being able to track added sugars is really important. I think next year, all food vendors have to disclose this information on their labels. Having this broken down on your website will be very helpful to me and others that need this information.

Hi there,

We will definitely look into the possibility of distinguishing between sugars for a future update.

For now, one workaround is to create a new meal category such as “fruits and vegetables” to log items containing natural sugars. When the food diary is viewed on our full website, or via our iPad app, nutrients are sub-totalled on a per-meal basis, making it possible to see your total natural sugar intake by logging the relevant items in a single meal.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or feedback.

I note that you gave the same answer to another person in 2014 about adding features to the website distinguishing between natural and added sugars :-) Is it really going to happen?

Thanks for getting back in touch with us. Please accept our apologies if your suggestion has not yet been added to the program. We highly appreciate member feedback and we do our best to add as many recommendations as we can. We follow certain guidelines when improving our program, such as the number of requests we receive, along with the ability to be able to add the feature.

Though many features may seem like an easy addition, there are many behind the scenes complications for even the simplest of request, especially since our program is so complex and runs on several platforms. The feedback we receive is noted and shared with our developing team, and we will continue to do all we can to try to add the most requested features when possible.

In the meantime, thank you so much for using the program and for sharing how we can improve upon it. We wish you nothing but success!

All the best,

Thanks for the reply. I see there are plenty of requests for the breakdown in sugars but I understand if this feature is too big a technical challenge. Just be aware that competitors will come along eventually with these features and this is likely to lead to changed loyalties.

You have the best application available so I hope you don't lose pole position.
