Weird weight prediction AnirbanMookherjee — Jan 14, 2016 09:57PM PST

I exceeded my goal caloric intake of 2020 calories by about 500 on a day when I logged my current weight to be 172 lbs and still it estimates my weight in 5 weeks time('If every day were like today') to be 171.2lbs. How is that possible? How can I lose weight with a caloric surplus?

Hey thanks for posting your question. When we you first start your account we use your profile information to calculate how many calories you would burn in a day, before adding extra exercise. We then subtract from this amount to come up with your daily calorie goal, in order for you to be able to lose weight, even if you do not log additional exercise. So even though you may have exceeded your calorie goal, you still may be under what we have calculated that you would burn in a day.

For example, if your daily burn is 2200 calories and your goal is 1500, you would still lose weight if you ate 2020, you just may not be on pace to meet your weight loss goal of 2 pounds per week.

Cheers,
Logan
