Apple Watch Exercise Not Syncing ungerrc — Apr 18, 2017 09:49AM PDT

I have had several Apple Health activities not sync at all or sync and repeat several times in MFP. I have gone into Apple Health and turned all the categories off and back on. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for posting and sorry for any trouble with your Apple Watch workouts. We’ve received a number of reports that workouts are no longer syncing after the Watch’s OS 4 update. We’re looking into which exercises are making it over and which are not so we can get things moving again as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you start your workouts as Other, and then do not rename them after they’ve ended, those should make it over to MyFitnessPal.

Warm Regards,
Logan

Thanks for posting and sorry for any trouble. Would you please let us know whether you are having the issue with specific entries or if it appears to be random? Please also let us know how the activities were logged? Were they tracked on the watch as “Other” and then renamed after it was completed? If so would you please try leaving them as Other to see if they then sync over?

Warm Regards,
Logan

I am having the same issue, my Apple Health Activities will not sync at all. My steps will from my apple watch, but not my exercise.

I am also having the same trouble. My Apple Health Activities will not sync at all. I did have one activity under "Other" that I had renamed, but my other activities that usually sync (ie Indoor Cycle) are no longer syncing. This has just started in the past two days.

Thanks for following up with us with the additional information. Please try uninstalling and reinstalling both the phone app and the watch app to see if that corrects the sync. You might also want to check your Source screen for MyFitnessPal in Health and make sure that the permissions allowing MyFitnessPal to read Steps, Walking + Running Distance, and Workouts are still turned on. Please let us know if you are still experiencing the issue after reinstalling.

Is it necessary to have the MFP watch app installed to sync the workout?

Thanks for following up with us. Please open the Health app and then tap sources, followed by MyFitnessPal, to make sure that it is showing the full list of options to read and write are allowed. If it is only showing a few data points and not the full list, please open MyFitnessPal, select More, followed by Sharing & Privacy, then tap on Healthkit Sharing and tap to Allow All. Once all the options are toggled on, try completing a new workout as Other on the watch and then returning to your MyFitnessPal Diary to see if it has made it over.

My apple watch workouts are not syncing with myfitnesspal. In myfitnesspal, I go to sources -> MyFitnessPal -> all categories are turned on. When I click on Activity -> Data Sources & Access -> Health or Apple Watch are not listed under Apps allowed to read data. Please help!

I have found that many of the workouts listed on the Apple Watch Activity app do not transfer over. I have had the best luck with Other (no custom name), Yoga, and Mixed Cardio. There may be some others, but these usually work for me. The latest Watch update made a few others work, but there are still a lot of them that don't. If you are wondering which to choose, Other will always transfer the time and calories.

Thank you for following up with us regarding your issue. Our apologies that the issue is persisting. Unfortunately, some issues take a little longer to resolve than others. We don’t like when things aren’t working either and we will do what we can to locate the source and get a fix in place, in the form of an update, as soon as possible. Dear MyFitnessPal Team,

Unfortunately this problem seems still unresolved. Thus, for every Apple watch user the App is almost worthless. I hope it is worth to wait.

Hi
I've had my Apple Watch less than 2 weeks and the MFP app a few days only, but it seems this problem goes way back. My activity app is not syncing with MFP. I have uninstalled and reinstalled apps as advised above to no avail. Are there any other steps I can try to get it to work besides registering all activity as "other". The whole idea of linking the apps was that I could spend less time behind a screen logging info manually.
Kind regards

Hi Logan, thanks for continuing to post on this thread, however, this thread was originally started in April 2017. This simply seems to be a problem with the way in which MFP calls the Apple Health API (I assume), it really shouldn't take this long to fix. This issue doesn't affect me directly, as I use Gym-a-holic, which syncs perfectly every time but my wife, who got an Apple Watch for xmas from her lovely husband (haha), is not able to sync any activity data. I think the frustration on this thread comes from the fact that we all LOVE MFP, personally, I wouldn't be without it! Are you able to commit to a timeline on when you will either resolve the issue or allow us to use Apple Watch as a device, as you would with a FitBit? Thanks, Adam

Thanks for following up with us. Sorry for the ongoing issue. In the meantime, you may still sync activity with the watch, as long as you leave it as Other rather than renaming with a name that isn’t transferring. We’ll pass on the feedback to our developers, that you are eager to have the ability to use all the exercise names available on the watch and have them sync over.

Warm Regards,
Logan

Hey Logan, Thanks for the quick response! So to be clear, she'll need to use the "Other" option in the Workout app? That is fine but the Health app also records "Active Energy" i.e. the number of calories burned over and above resting energy. Is there plans to have MFP import this data? Thanks, Adam

Logan MyFitnessPal Agent Jan 04, 2018 01:41PM PST

BillyBankrupt

Correct, if you leave the workouts as Other in the Workout app, they should sync over. There is not currently a plan to sync over Active Energy because when you select to use your iOS device to track your steps in MyFitnessPal, we actually calculate your calorie burn on our end.

The above answer worked on the 3rd of Jan for me, Didnt work on the 4th. i did however select other... then went ahead to name the workout. When i did my next work out, the apple watch s1 wouldnt work out calories so i stopped my workout on the watch (as i was only walking at this point) and restarted another workout under the "other" category which worked fine. Except none of them have synced to MFP. Fingers crossed there is a successful update as the app is brilliant other than this minor fault.
Thanks
Baz

Update, elliptical works (Y). i am on nightshift so wondered going over midnight with a workout might be an issue. today i managed to finish the work out before midnight. which doesnt prove it works in my scenario.

Just happy its uploading something to MFP.

Cheers

Hi Logan,

I would like to go back to your response to 'BillyBankrupt' on Jan 04 2018 01:41PM PST.
You gave a response to the syncing of Active Energy stating that there are no plans to include this feature.
Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't myfitnesspal accepting this data before? It is only this week that I have noticed that my 'workout' calories are syncing to the app but my move calories (Active calories) are not.
Example: This morning I used 'Other' as a workout and logged 742 calories burned. Came home, went to bed for a few hours and I am now on 866 Active calories burned. Didn't this complete calorie burn used to synced over to MFP...ever?

Next: How and when in the day, does the calculation on your end work?

Hey thanks for posting your question. When tracking your steps with your iOS device, MyFitnessPal calculates the calorie burn for your steps and resting rate. If you log a workout, that calorie burn will be added to your total. That amount is then compared to what we originally calculated you would burn, based on your profile information and selected activity level. If the iOS Calorie Burn is higher than your MyFitnessPal Calorie Burn, then you will receive additional calories in the form of an adjustment.

Warm Regards,
Logan

I have a problem where steps sync fine with MFP and the calories adjustment looks correct, but when I do a workout through apple watch instead of crediting me the calories i earn it deducts them from my day by calorie adjustment so I am being penalised for exercise! Is this a setting issue on my devices or a bug?

Up -1 rated Down

Bruce MyFitnessPal Agent Jan 10, 2018 12:10PM PST

Hi phillaxton

How the integration will work is that you will see a positive adjustment if you are projected to burn more than your MyFitnessPal Calories Burned, based off the current total Calorie burn from Apple Watch. Your MyFitnessPal Calories Burned are composed of two things: your estimate of calories burned per day MyFitnessPal makes based off your profile information plus any added exercises. If an exercise is added manually or from a partner, the MyFitnessPal Calories Burned increase and the adjustment will modify itself so that calories burned are not double counted.

Details about the calculation of any adjustment can be viewed by clicking the small “i” next to the adjustment in your Exercise Diary (on the full website), or by tapping the adjustment itself in the Exercise Diary of the MyFitnessPal on the apps (you may need to tap the adjustment in the diary and then again on the next page depending on your app version). If you do not see a line that says MFP iOS Calories Burned/Steps Calorie Burned adjustment in the cardiovascular section, then there may be a problem with the sync. However, if you do see this line, then it should be syncing correctly, even if it says 0.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Hi Bruce

I follow, but then I don't.

I use strava. I connect strava to MFP to track my running calories because as we know, using the workout app running feature does not sync to MFP.

My strava run pulls over no problem. 30 minutes. 525 calories. Cool.

My apple watch steps pull over no problem. 1200 steps. -525 calories. Not so cool.

Now, I understand that MFP doesn't want to double count activity, but shouldn't it simply show 0 for my steps calories rather than -525?

Thanks

Bruce MyFitnessPal Agent Jan 11, 2018 06:25AM PST

Hi trotting

Are you referring too the Workout app on the Apple Watch? If so, your indoor and outdoor running exercises will sync from the Apple Watch to MyFitnessPal. If that is not happening, please reinstall the MyFitnessPal app and relink your Apple Watch and HealthKit to see if that will help.

After reinstalling, in MyFitnessPal tap More>Steps>Apple Watch and you should be taken to a page to turn some Categories On. Turn them on and then tap More>Settings>Sharing & Privacy>HealthKit Sharing and you’ll be taken to another page to turn On more Categories. This should relink your Apple Watch and HealthKit.

If you are seeing a -525 adjustment instead of a 0 Calorie adjustment, then you have the Negative Adjustments feature enabled, which will take Calories away from your goal if you are expected to burn less than your MyFitnessPal Calories Burned. To disable the feature, log in at https://www.myfitnesspal.com/ and click Settings>Diary Settings.

All the best,
Bruce

Bruce - I've also done all of what you suggest above and everything won't sycn on my end from Apple Watch steps/activities.

Is it possible you have an issue on your end? I was considering going premium but won't until this gets resolved.

Thanks for your help,

Hi brantley_d

Currently some exercises performed in the Apple Watch will not sync to MyFitnessPal since we do not have a matching exercise in our database. We are working on updating our database so that these exercises can sync in the future.

You can check our article located here for more information on what exercises will sync

If you are having issues with steps or if an exercises that should sync isn’t, please let us know.

All the best,
Bruce
