What does Myfitnesspal consider 100% of Calcium? Is there a way to see what 100% DV is ?

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. This is not such an easy question to answer, as food values in our database, whether added by our staff or by other users, are created based on the food packaging labels for those products.

At least for foods labeled in the United States, your Daily Value percentages are based on a “2,000 calorie diet for a healthy adult.” Since these are based on a percentage for the day, recommended by the USDA, there is not currently a defined number for that percentage.

The best source for understanding this percentage can be found via this link: http://www.fda.gov/Food/IngredientsPackagingLabeling/LabelingNutrition/ucm274593.htm#see6

You may also review some recent changes to the nutritional goals we assign to your profile here: http://myfitnesspal.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/1375583-a-message-about-myfitnesspal-s-updated-nutrition-goals

If you know your daily needs are higher than the recommended value presented on standard food labels, or those recommended by our program, you can adjust your goal to a different percentage than “100%” of the recommended value.

To customize your targets, log into your account on our website at http://www.myfitnesspal.com. Sign into the members log in area by clicking the blue “login” link, using the same username and password that you use to log into the app. Once you’ve logged in, go to “My Home”, then “Goals”, then hit the “Change Goals” button at the bottom of the page. Choose the “Custom” option and you’ll be taken to a page where you can set your own targets for all of the nutrients we track.

Once you’ve saved your changes, those same changes will appear in the app the next time the app syncs to the website – this should happen automatically with a valid internet connection.

Please let us know if you have any other problems or questions. We wish you all the success in reaching and maintaining all of your diet and fitness goals.

Kind Regards,
Maximiliano
