I don't understand negative calories adjustment? tryinggmybest — May 08, 2018 01:17PM PDT

I linked MyFitnessPal with my vivofit (Garmin Connect) and enabled negative calories since I use my vivofit consistently. However, I think something is wrong. On MyFitnessPal it says I earned 148 calories worth of exercise, meaning I have 170 calories remaining for the day. However, on Garmin Connect it says I have 280 active calories giving me 303 remaining calories for the day. Which is correct? Why are the numbers not lining up? Thanks!

Our apologies for any difference you are seeing between your remaining goals across the two platforms. Though we integrate with several different programs, they are just that, different programs. In such, there may be a difference between the information, as each program will use different databases and different plans.

The best way to help reduce the difference is to make sure your standard information, such as your height, birthday, weight, weight loss/gain goals, and time zones are the same on both platforms.

When you join MyFitnessPal we ask you to elect your specific weight loss/gain goals. We then provide specific goals, determined by our program plan, for you to meet those goals. When you link with another partner, we are merely pulling over the exercise information from that partner to work with these same goals. Since there are many different approaches for weight loss, other programs may use a different formula than ours, however that formula does not transfer to our program, just the information from the exercise will.

We are not sure of how other programs determine their goals, but we have designed a program to help with healthy and sustainable weight loss. To read more on how we calculate your goals, please see:
