I understand the app uses my height, weight, and age to determine the goals. I want to know what evidence/source is used to decide this? There is such a large range of information in the research community about what is appropriate.

Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We use the Mifflin-St. Jeor equations to calculate your BMR. You can read more about your BMR here. We then user your BMR and Physical Activity Level to determine how many Calories you would need to maintain your weight and then + or – Calories based off your desire to gain or lose weight. You can read more on how we calculate your goals at https://myfitnesspal.desk.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1375583-a-message-about-myfitnesspal-s-updated-nutrition-goals.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions or feedback.

Regards,
Bruce
